Friday Favorites-7.31.20

Whoop!  Whoop!

Yesterday, Tab and I celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary and on Sunday, it's my BIRTHDAY!  All kinds of celebrations happening around here.  Last night, M offered to babysit so Tab and I enjoyed a kid-free dinner.  This weekend we don't have a lot of plans-other than an end-of-the-season baseball party on Sunday.  And I told my family on Saturday they HAVE to do what I wanna do.  All day.  #wellseeifithappens

Andrea and I are here talking FRIDAY FAVORITES!

Here's a look at my FAVORITES from the week...
The first FAVORITE are this group of grandparents who came out to watch the Broncos play baseball this weekend.  They can cheer, bring the absolute best snacks, and manage to bring lots of laughs.

These four boys were in the same kindergarten class and have been the best of friends ever since.  My FAVORITE part of their friendship is seeing them high five, pat each others back, or cheer each other on during a game.  Melts my heart!

This next FAVORITE is pretty fancy...

Whataburger's Spicy Ketchup.  I MIGHT have seen it in my grocery store this week and shrieked.  Also, let me remind you of this if you're into spicy things...

Ebby Lee's latest hobby has been bracelet making.  She's learned five or six different patterns and basically always has a water bottle with bracelet started in case she gets a free second.  She learned mostly from friends, but thought I'd pass this along in case you have a tween/middle school daughter.  I've heard LOTS of tutorials are on YouTube!

This series of books {I believe there are three} is a FAVORITE read before school.  If you haven't read this one to your kids, give it a shot this year!

Thank you for reading!
Happy Weekend!

Today, Tab and I are celebrating our FIFTEEN YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!

WHOA!  I cannot believe it's been fifteen years since our wedding day.  Tab and I got married in a church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in front of  two hundred of our closest friends and family.  We said our, "I Do's", and then all headed to the reception where we danced, ate {except not me because really does the bride EVER eat on her big day}, and set off as Mr. and Mrs. Slaughter!

One apartment, three houses, four kids, eight jobs, and what feels like a lifetime later we're here!

I have a Q and A coming next week with all kinds of questions you asked Tab and I {and they are GOOD}.  The truth is it's gonna take us a while to get through all those questions and we had a busy weekend.  ;)  So I promise that Q and A post is coming.  Today though in honor of FIFTEEN YEARS, I'm sharing FIFTEEN things about us instead.

1.  Our parents are both divorced.  I don't really want to say I'm thankful for that necessarily but I kind of am.  Both of us experiencing the heartbreak divorce can cause within a family has allowed us a different look than some people experience.

2.  I say it all the time, but Tab is the fun one in our relationship.  And by that I don't mean I'm not fun, I just mean he's MORE fun.  I'm definitely the rule-follower and he's gonna live a little more on the edge.  But we're a great balance.

3.  He prefers a serious drama, I prefer a reality and we like to meet in the middle which for our marriage is Dateline.  :)  hahahaha!

4.  He would tell you the only thing I've ever attempted to make that was absolutely un-edible was seafood lasagna.  Yes, yes, I attempted a seafood lasagna about three months into marriage.  I forgot who I was for a hot second and really thought I'd whip up some recipe I found in a magazine.  It was as delicious as it sounds.  We threw it out and had peanut butter and jelly instead.

5.  Speaking of those early days of marriage, they were HARD!  We moved nine hours away from my family and six hours away from Tab's.  We were just talking about how they were maybe the best thing that could have happened to two newlyweds because we had to rely on each other.

6.   Tab is the Saturday morning breakfast chef at our house anytime he's home.  {Which is ALL THE TIME lately.}  He can whip up bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy like no other!

7. Years ago when we first started texting each other.  Do you remember when texting was a brand new thing?  I didn't know how to put a space in between words so all of my texts looked like this...

Yes, yes, they did and we still laugh about it.  {Insert that face plant emoji right here, please.}

8.  Tab and I met at Arkansas State University my sophomore year and started dating about two and half years later.

9.  I didn't know a single thing about football before meeting Tab.  I went to football games at college but really had NO CLUE what was happening the entire four quarters.

10.   Tab is a night owl and I'm a morning person.  #oppositesattract

11. While we're on the subject of opposites attracting, I love to read and Tab hasn't read a book since high school.  {How did he make it through college?}

12. The second year we were married Tab grew his hair out for about a month, wanted a haircut weekly {which we could not afford}, and he began shaving it again.  {He's never looked back.}

13. Tab proposed on top of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee.  I had NO CLUE and was shocked to see him!  {I'll tell the story in full next week on our Q and A.}

14.  This past spring/summer we had three adult-only trips on the books that were all cancelled.  There wasn't a big 15 year vacation scheduled just for our anniversary purposes but it's tough to get away with four kids at home so any time we can make it happen whether it be for work or in this case work and an out of town wedding we would have.  Maybe next year?

15. We don't have any big exciting plans tonight.  If you're looking for us, you'll find us parked on the couch between four kids celebrating 15 YEARS!  Unless...we can sneak off for a quick dinner.  #wishusluck

Happy, Happy Anniversary Tab Slaughter!  I am behind thankful I get to do this life with you by my side.  I love you so much!

What's Up Wednesday-7.29.20

I'm linking up today with Sheaffer and Shay for What's Up Wednesday.

What We're Eating This Week...
I've officially hit that mark in the summer when I'm OVER summer foods.  This week we're eating sloppy joe's, chicken tortilla soup, and burgers/hot dogs.

What I'm Reminiscing About...
The first day of school last year looked very different.  I've been thinking about how all those nervous first day of school vibes were happening this particular morning.  2020, will be so very different.

What I'm Loving...
I never thought I'd be declaring this as something I'm loving but I'm LOVING real-life sports on tv!!  This weekend I found myself watching the Dodgers and Giants JUST BECAUSE!  And I've gotta be honest-I LOVED it!

What We've Been Up To...
I heard a baseball mom for the opposing team say over the weekend, "I'm so thankful for my boys' baseball.  Otherwise we'd be doing absolutely nothing."

And that sums up our life right now.

What I'm Dreading...
A lot of our favorite things have already been cancelled for the upcoming season.  I'm kind of dreading seeing that all play out.

What I'm Working On...
I'm working on my 15 YEARS blog post for tomorrow!  We have some of the best questions from you guys!

What I'm Excited About...
Did you hear the news?

I was GIDDY when I heard...
I cannot WAIT to WATCH!

What I'm Watching/Reading...

A girlfriend just recommended this book, The Girl With the Louding Voice.   I started it over the weekend and already have ALL THE FEELS!

Tab and I are STILL almost finished watching Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  {She's a comedian so the language is RR.}

What I'm Listening To...
On repeat around our house.

What I'm Wearing...
Still wearing this jumpsuit!

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
It's MY BIRTHDAY!  So we'll be celebrating MAMA!

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
I'm praying that with school starting things will start looking a little bit more like normal in August!

Thanks for reading today!

Friday Favorites-7.24.20

Hey Friends!

It's FRIDAY!  Like always, Andrea and I are sharing some FAVORITES and we'd love to have you join us!

How are you guys doing?

This week feels like it's flown by.  And August is right around the corner!  How'd that happen?

I have a small list today but they're all BIG FAVORITES!

First FAVORITE is summer time with these four {and Tab when he's not working}.  The kids and I do our best to get out of the house almost daily to head to the pool just to burn some energy and have a little resemblance of a "normal" summer.

This spring {but we really played in the summer} baseball season for Nixon's team has been THE MOST FUN!!  It's a FAVORITE for all six of us.  The boys are great, parents are great, siblings are all great, and our whole family has enjoyed all the tournaments and games the Broncos have had!  It might have something to do with it being the only thing we've had going on when typically we've got a volleyball tournament simultaneously or Tab's out of town for football.  The slower pace of life has helped us all rally behind the Broncos and one day when we look back at 2020 all of us will have the best memories of watching Broncos Baseball.

I ordered the tie-dye in a small.  The material is very thin and light weight.  I wouldn't necessarily wear it out much in the Texas temperatures we've been having lately but I just know cooler temps are coming...right?

It has a "pulled together" look when really you feel like you're wearing pajamas.

Every once in a while in the middle of doing something whether it be eating something, watching something, reading something, etc. I think-I'VE GOTTA SHARE THIS WITH MY BLOGGER FRIENDS.  And let me tell you guys-this Peloton ride this past week was one of them.  If you're a Peloton girl, DO THIS RIDE!  It's the 20 Minute 80's Ride with Robin.  The music was SO GOOD...Tina Turner, Billy Joel, and Guns N' Roses.  I'm telling you-you'll love it!  A FAVORITE!

Just a FAVORITE verse I came across this week.  Such a sweet reminder on kind words and how they speak to us and to others.

Thank YOU for stopping by today!  Hope you have the best weekend!

Adoption Update-3 Years and 2 Months

 Whoa!  I have so many mixed feelings as I calculate that number...three years and two months a some ways it feels like I remember every thought I had just three years and two months ago.  My emotions from that journey are so fresh, but on the flip side it seems like Britt has been a SLAUGHTER forever.  FOREVER!

You guys asked for an adoption update and I'm here for it today!

Britt is doing so well.  She's become little Miss Independent.  She moves her stool from room to room so she can reach the sink, the refrigerator, the water, etc.  You name it, that girl will figure out a way to get to or reach whatever it is she's looking for.  I'm pretty sure Shakespeare had Britt in mind when he said, "Though she be but little she is fierce."  That sums her right up.  She's tough, she's scrappy, she can be in princess heels in one minute and dribbling a basketball amidst neighborhood boys the next.  And she does it all just barely hitting the charts in the height and weight department for her age.  See?  Shakespeare knew what he was talking about.  Super tiny, but FIERCE.

This slower paced, quarantine life has been great for Britt's speech.  She's talking and interacting all day long so her speech lately has just continued to improve.  At preschool she was hearing language all day {which was great} but here at home she's on the speaking end of almost every single word.  Sometimes I wish she'd take a pause.  Mamas, do you remember this phase?

It wasn't too long ago when we were just praying for her to use words more.  Well, let me tell you.  Answered prayer #2348.

We've started working on a few things at home because she has a lot of ground to cover before she heads to kindergarten next year.  I CANNOT believe it's just NEXT YEAR!  In preparation, we've upped our reading game and are working on letters and numbers as well.

The biggest prayer that I prayed was for Britt's attachment to our family and I can't even begin to describe how I see that answered prayer numerous times throughout my day.  She is fully, one hundred percent attached to all five of us.  And the feeling is mutual.  ;)

When I asked my family their favorite thing about Britt, here are their responses...

Tab-"Her personality-she's fun, sassy, cute, and smart, and she knows how to use all of those to get what she wants."
Ebby Lee-"She's so energetic and playful!  She just makes everybody so happy."
Nixon-"She's really funny and so cute."
Bowen-"She has the cutest cheeks."
{Bowen's always had a thing for cheeks.  Remember THIS POST?}

This girl lights up a room and turns us all into putty in her tiny hands.  We love her so very much and can't wait to see God has in store.

I say this in every adoption post but ADOPTION IS AMAZING!  There's simply no other way to describe it.  God knew this sweet girl would make the perfect fit for our family.  All we had to do was listen.  If God is speaking to you about adoption, I pray you'll listen and act.

Tuesday Talk-Back to School

That means Fancy Ashley and I are here chit-chatting about anything and everything under the sun.
Today, I wanna have a little...

Our school just announced last week the first three weeks of school will be virtual and then the plan is for the kids to be back at school for in-person learning.  Parents can opt out and continue on with the virtual learning, if they'd prefer after those three weeks.

Has your school made an announcement?  I've heard of the hybrid schedule, delayed start, year-long calendar, and complete virtual learning.  What's happening where you live?

Needless to say, our school year is definitely gonna start off looking a little different, but I'm determined to make the beginning of the year feel extra special in 2020.  We'll be pulling out all the stops with our First Day of School Traditions.  I've been brainstorming some new ideas that will help make those first three weeks really successful.  {And I have a blog post coming with some of those on the lookout!}

One thing that will be a bit different is I won't be purchasing expensive outfits for the first day of school this year!  But don't worry, that's where Wal-Mart comes in!  Last year I teamed up with Wal-Mart to talk Back to School and lots of you mentioned grabbing items for your kiddos.  Ebby Lee and I found items she wore all year long and the prices just can't be beat!  When Wal-Mart reached out to see if I'd like to team up again, I knew it was a no-brainer!

Ebby Lee and I went shopping at our local store to find the cutest they had to offer in the girls' department!  From preschool to middle school, we've got you covered.

Smocked Top-Denim Skirt {Similar}-Wedge Sneakers {THESE SNEAKERS ARE UNDER $11!}

Leopard Top (Comes in other fun prints)-White Skirt-Wedge Sneakers {THESE SNEAKERS ARE UNDER $11!}

My favorite thing about these items are the fall colors but they're perfect for warm fall days here in Texas.  All of these tops/skirts (with built-in shorts) are this brand.

Please let me know what Back to School is going to look like in your house this year!  And thank you to Wal-Mart for sponsoring this post.

You can find our favorites from Wal-Mart here...
