Denim Shorts Review

Okay, Ladies!

I've basically been doing a scientific experiment on the best denim shorts for those of us who don't exactly want to have shorts to the knee but also know our backside needs to be fully covered in those shorts.  We are moms, for crying out loud!  Nobody needs to be seeing that.  So, I did what any great friend would do.  I ordered a variety of denim shorts and am here to show you what I thought.  You can hear my feedback and take a look for yourself.  I tried to cover the low, medium, and high range of prices and think I did just that.  You'll be surprised to see my favorites!

Let's get this party started!

I'd heard about these shorts over and over again from bloggers to friends and finally gave them a try.  Many recommended sizing up to wear them lower on your hip, but I found my typical 27 worked great.  They were a good length with no crazy upper thigh rip bearing skin no one should see.  They fit and felt great!  And wait for it-the price rings in at UNDER $15!!!  Yes, you read that right.  They're on sale now for under FIFTEEN DOLLARS!
I got the medium wash.  They are a medium rise so really just at that sweet spot in between worrying about what's showing when you bend over and way too high.  Know what I mean?

I was trying to show you in this shot-if I would have sized up I think this part would be too big.  If I wore them lower on my hips, I think this would hang down too low.  Make sense?

From the side-see they really are the perfect length!

I've also heard about these boyfriend denim shorts from American Eagle from numerous people.  Now, please someone tell me if this is the truth but I'm thinking maybe everyone's rips are in different places but in this particular pair there's a big rip really high.  I'm pretty sure if I hadn't scripted this picture perfectly you could see my unmentionables through the rip.  I know that can't be the case for every pair so I'm thinking maybe I just got a pair with a harsh rip?  Please if you own these, weigh in!

These are a higher rise, but still a good length.  My only negative was the high rip.  These are on sale and ringing in at under $25.  I've decided to keep mine to wear around the house and at home school days on repeat.  I did see they have a similar fit that's much longer so maybe the rips are longer too?  I just wouldn't recommend them based on the rips.

Okay, last year I ordered a pair off Amazon that recommended I needed a medium so I didn't read all the reviews as closely as I should have but instead ordered a medium.  They're way too big.  I'll be sending mine back.  Has anyone ordered these in the correct size and loved them?

I would like to say from a quality stand point-these feel the least good quality when it comes to any of the shorts I tried.

Same brand as the shorts above but these mediums fit.  These also ring in at right under $28.  They're big enough I can wear low on my hips but not too big to look weird.  I'll keep these and wear them from time to time but they're not my favorites.

Just so you can see the length.

These Agolde shorts represent the higher end of the experiment and the quality of the denim is much thicker than any of the other shorts I tried.  They are a true high rise short and in this color-they feel very 90's with the very light wash paired with the high rise.  I have a long-waist so many of the shirts have that style of being shorter right now which can be a bad combo for me, but if I'm wearing these then no mid-riff is showing.

And I forgot to mention, they're a great length for me.

Kut from the Kloth Denim Shorts or in {White-both are on sale now}
Shay and Sheaffer both recommended these to me last year so I gave them a shot for our Hawaii trip.  Verdict is in...I love them!  The're a great price and they're a great length!  My only hesitation will be the times I wash them.  I have a more "athletic build" and I can tell that if I wash/dry these a lot they'll eventually get tight around my leg.  I used to over-wash my denim but it's not an issue anymore.  Just wanted to put a little FYI out there.

See?  Covering everything really well!

Now, I'm gonna be honest-if I were recommending a pair of denim to you-I'd recommend the Target option.  I think they fit great and are such a great price.  If you want to try two, then I'd suggest the Kut from the Kloth and the Target.

What'd I miss?  What brand is your favorite pair of denim shorts?  Do you have any of these and if so, what do you think?  Thanks for reading today, friends!

Two more things...are you following along with our 31 Days of Getaways with Mix and Match Travel?  We're featuring 31 days of AMAZING destinations and we're ending with a BIG BANG kind of getaway.  Trust me-you don't want to miss it!

Also, Shay and I are hosting a fun Photo-A-Day Challenge over on Instagram for the month of May.  You should join us!  Today's topic is, "a blessing".  I'd love to read about a blessing in your life right now!  Please join us!

Happy Monday!

Those all look great on you! And the KUT shorts actually wash really well!!!! If you ever do get them too snug, you can tug on them when still wet and they will stretch back out easily!

I recently bought Madewell "the perfect denim short" and I have to agree, they have been great! They have a higher rise but not too high and the length is great.

Great review! I was going to post I like the target pair and the white Kut from the Kloth pair the best, and glad to read those were your top picks. I really need to get a pair of white shorts, and may give these a try.
Thanks for sharing!
