Erika and Shay's 2nd Annual ROAD TRIP!

ROAD TRIP TAKE #2...Last year, Shay and I planned a little road trip for us and the kiddos.  We rented a twelve passenger van, mapped our route with fun stops along the way, and enjoyed a little vacation mom and kids only.  We really had such a good time and vowed to make it an annual event.

We did JUST THAT last week...here's my recap of our SECOND ANNUAL ROAD TRIP!
Monday morning my people were outside bright and early {I'm talking 5:45 a.m.} ready for the Shull crew to pick us up!

ROAD TRIP #2!

Our FIRST stop was West Side Country Cafe in Ft. Worth.  When researching breakfast spots, this one kept coming up so we had to try it out!

Britt and Bowen were all smiles for a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and pancakes!

Ebby Lee and Kensington were as well.  :)

Pre-food shenanigans...check out Madeley and Britty.

Next stop...Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas.  This is a drive-through safari park that allows you to feed animals and get to really see them up close and personal.

We got out and stretched our legs for just a bit before heading into the park.

Everyone took turns in the passenger seat so they could feed the animals and get a closer look.

Please know we were driving approximately two miles per hour.

The back of the bus van was CRAZY!

Even Britty was into checking out all these animals.

The drive was a seven mile path with a halfway stopping point in the middle complete with bathrooms, souvenir shop, and cafe.

Along the drive, we'd see deer like this RIGHT outside the window.

And at times the front seat looked like this...how was Shay driving?

There were moments our van wasn't moving due to the herd in our way.

We enjoyed our mid-way stop!

I didn't catch a picture but my favorite part of Fossil Rim HAD to be when Smith and Nixon were trying to feed the ostrich and that crazy thing had his ENTIRE head in the van at one point.  Those two "tough" boys were huddled in between the two seats like a t-rex was trying to get them.  BEST MOMENT OF THE DAY!

Stop #3 on the ROAD TRIP was at The Green Pickle for a burger and fries in downtown Glen Rose.

This kiddo keeps me smiling.

I've said it before, but I'm saying it again...he is her absolute favorite!

After lunch, we hopped back in the van and made our way back to Ft. Worth for stop #4...Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History.

This place was GREAT!  It was scorching HOT outside so while they were several other places we'd have liked to hit in Glen Rose, we just knew it was too hot.  We made our afternoon stop some place indoor that was air conditioned.  It worked perfectly!

This museum had tons of areas specifically designed for kids of all ages.

Laying on the bed of nails was a hit!

We raced our paper airplanes.

Checked out all the decor...

Made our way to the Children's Museum to watch Miss Britty get her shop on.

This girl knows what to do with a cart.

I'm not sure if it was the date-Monday after the 4th or the time of day-late afternoon but we had this place pretty much to ourselves.

This dinosaur area was Bowen's favorite.

And it looks like Madeley's too.

Please note Nixon's shoes...I had my kiddos all wear flip flops/sandals and clearly Nixon had outgrown his.  I'm almost positive his big toes were touching the ground every time he stepped.  If you think I have it all together, remember this moment.

In this dinosaur exhibit, you could color dinosaurs, scan them and then they'd walk across the screen.  The kiddos thought this was super cool!

We can't pass up a big train table.

This exhibit showed us how much power was needed to provide electricity to this little city.

At this point, our people were getting hungry and a bit nervous we were too close to home, so we made our way to Joe T. Garcia's, stop #5, a very iconic Mexican restaurant in Ft. Worth.

The plan was to sit outside in the gardens, but we hit a little down pour.  We were happy to stay dry inside.

I haven't been to Joe T.'s in YEARS and it's one of my favorites!  I was one happy girl!

Then...the final destination was coming up...stop #6, The Gaylord Texan Resort.
The littles were total big girls rolling these suit cases through the hotel.

I had four happy {and exhausted} kiddos when we got to our room.  We showered, got in bed, and chilled out before a full day spent by the pool on Tuesday.

Tuesday, we made our way to Paradise Springs, the water park located just a shuttle away from the hotel.  This water park has this big kid area, a lazy river, a water slide, a zip line into the big pool, and a little basketball area in the pool as well.

Two Slaughter girls ready for a day spent POOL SIDE!

Those were the only two pictures I took on Tuesday.  {Insert face plant}  We hung out at the water park area from 10-4:45 when we made our way to the Escape Room in the Gaylord.  There are some special summer activities happening for kids and the Escape Room was one.  After forty-five minutes of trying our best, we did NOT manage to escape.  #myminddoesntthinklikethat  Once they released us, we drowned our sorrows in chicken sandwiches, nachos, and macaroni and cheese at the sports bar/grill before showers and early bedtimes.

Wednesday morning, these two were matching in their cover-ups!

Nixon was surprised when he spotted the Texas Rangers' manager, Chris Woodward, in the pool.  I'd like to add that the Woodward family was so sweet to Nixon, who happened to be wearing his Gallo jersey.

Right after lunch time, Tab and Andrew surprised the crew by meeting us for the rest of the afternoon/night.

Tab might have been a little starstruck too.

What a way to wrap up another Road Trip!  We had a BLAST and are already looking forward to #3!

I know I said this last year, but I'm gonna say it again.  Grab a girlfriend, throw all your kids in the car, and DO THIS!  This could be as extravagant or as least extravagant as you can make it.  You could make it an extremely long one day only road trip where you and a friend do all the things near you.  Or I have other friends who road trip to the beach without the hubbies every year and stay for a week.  Whatever works for you!  The point is to make some amazing memories with your people!

Shay and I are already brainstorming locations for next year!

Happy Wednesday!
XO

I love taking little trips with my girls and taking it with friends might be fun. All of a sudden though my husband has a jealous streak. It’s silly and cute. Mind you I have only taken a few girls trips with my kids but the last one he just can’t get over. I took my oldest to an amusement park and we stayed overnight. I have told him outright if he EVER wants to take the kids for a weekend and leave me at home I am all for it!!!
