What's Up Wednesday

I'm joining MelShay, and Sheaffer for their What's Up Wednesday link-up!

First of all, THANK YOU for all the sweet messages about Bowen.  He was fever free all day yesterday, so I'm going to play it by ear with preschool today.  He must have had a very mild case.  He was super chill for a day and a half and didn't feel great, but never bad enough to complain about something really hurting.

What we're eating this week:

I am on a "EASY KITCHEN WEEK FOR ME" break.  haha!  It's not necessarily eat out all week, but I just grabbed easy stuff.  Think chicken nuggets and scrambled eggs type of easy.

What I'm Reminiscing About:

I've been busy cleaning out the boys' room and am doing my best to only keep the things they really wear.  I'm reminiscing about the days when I picked out their clothes.  Look how cute!!  Now, they want all athletic clothes, all the time.

What I'm Loving:

I'm loving all my time with these people.  With football over, we're soaking up all the family time.

What We've Been Up To:

Ebby Lee is in the middle of doing a Bible Study {Seamless} with a group of girls from our neighborhood.

I finally found my way back to the gym after almost a month off.  {EEKS!!!}  On this day, I snuck upstairs to make a phone call after my workout class.

This girl has my heart.

We had Miss Madeley play with us last week while Shay was recovering and even in the midst of my decluttering mess they had fun.

Remember all that family time I mentioned above?  Well, I snuck this picture while Tab was figuring out how he was gonna glue my moose back together.  Boys will be boys and three of them were playing football in the house.  The moose lost an ear.  I'm happy to report he figured out a way to glue it back together.

What I'm Dreading:

The next room on my declutter list!  hahaha!

What I'm Working On:

AAAAWWWWW!!!  Baby Ebby Lee is PRECIOUS!
But I'm working on this girl's room next.  Sigh.

What I'm Excited About:

I'm excited about a Spring Break adventure with my favorite people.

What I'm watching/reading:

Back in September, my aunt Rene' group texted some of us girls and told us we needed to read this book. I ordered it immediately {so I wouldn't forget} and it's been sitting in my book cabinet ever since.  I just started this week!  Has anyone read it?

I'm watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta because I just can't stop. #still

Along with Arie's season of The Bachelor!

What I'm Listening To:

This soundtrack is playing in my car 24/7.

What I'm Wearing:

The last few days I've been in nothing but workout clothes and mismatched pajamas.

Lots of this on repeat...these pantsthis bra, and this top.

I shared this sweater back in December and am still loving it!

What I'm Doing This Weekend:

We have a volleyball game and a basketball game in the line-up this weekend. #wintersports

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month:

Did you see the list of celebrities?  I'm not sure what I think about the group BUT I'm looking forward to watching!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  XO

Link-Ups in 2018

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

I have one kiddo down with the flu so it's a slow, sick day at my house.  I'm praying no one else gets it.  But what are the odds?  #notgood

Today, we're chatting LINK-UPS!  I get asked quite frequently {I think because of the Friday Favorites' link-up} about link-ups so I thought I'd put a post together in January of the new year highlighting all the link-ups I'm hosting and participating in.

These are all the Link-Ups I'm hosting in 2018...

Friday Favorites
Every Friday, Narci, Andrea, and I host the Friday Favorites link-up.  This is a link-up where everything goes.  You can share ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you'd like.  At the bottom of the post, there's a button that says, "Add Your Link to the Link-Up".  If you follow the prompts, you can quickly add your blog to the post.

How We...Wednesdays

The second Wednesday of every month, Shay and I team up to share How We-do something.  The plan is we share how we do something, you share how you do something, and we all learn a little bit from each other.  You can see the schedule of topics below...

 Tuesday Talk

Once a month, the third Tuesday, Ashley and I host Tuesday Talk.  It's a link-up where we invite you to join us and chat about anything on your heart or mind.

The Link-Up I always participate in...

What's Up Wednesday

The last Wednesday of the month, I join Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer for their What's Up Wednesday fun.  {THIS IS TOMORROW!}  For this link-up, we always answer the questions above.

I have a few other I will randomly link-up to throughout the year, but these are the link-ups I add to my calendar.

The first thing I added to my blog calendar were these link-ups.  I added them for the entire year and then I worked/will continue to work on filling in the open dates on my calendar.

If you have a link-up questions, please leave it in the comments and I'll do my best to answer or add it to a Q and A post in the future.

AND if you host any link-ups, PLEASE share them in the comments.  Hopefully, this will be a great source for all of us bloggers as we're working on our calendar in the future.  Please leave the title of the link-up, the dates, and the subject.  I'm looking forward to adding some new link-ups to my 2018 calendar.  And hope you do too!

Have a great day!  XO

Questions Answered-Tab Edition

So I'm answering or I guess I should say Tab is answering.  :)

I get asked a lot about how Tab got into officiating football, how we handle the weekends away, and such so I decided to do a little Q and A.  I realized most of the questions you guys have I've already shared in THIS POST.   Be sure to check it out!

I was going to have Tab answer himself so you'd hear it all from his point-of-view.  BUT he was cooking us a big breakfast on Saturday morning and I couldn't interrupt that.  ha!  I asked him questions and jotted down what he said.

My "Tab Question" is: Is it hard to tune out the "ref comments"? My husband judges cattle shows, and sometimes you hear comments about "well, he doesn't know what he's doing" (from people who didn't win) and my husband always responds "Well, then they can go out in the ring and judge the show....but today, I got paid to do that." Lol. Just wondering if refs feel the same?

Tab said that it really isn't.  They're there to perform a job.  They do their job and can't worry about what others are screaming or yelling at the moment. You have to be prepared, do your best, and be a professional.  You can't worry about what's going on in the crowd.  He also mentioned that it's way easier to tune out those comments when you're in the middle of a loud football field compared to a gymnasium.  It just comes with the territory.  And to always remind yourself it's not the critic who counts. It's easy to criticize, it's hard to do the job.  There isn't a crazy long line forming to do this job and that probably tells you something.

I would love to know Tab's thoughts on flag football versus tackle football, and when he thinks kids should start playing tackle.

Everyone has a different opinion on this so keep in mind that's all this is-Tab's opinion.  He feels like there's no harm in waiting on tackle football.  The negatives far outweigh the positives on starting early.  Again, tons of people do it but he feels like flag football is great in elementary school.

How do your kids do at the football games?  How often do you go watch?  I can't imagine taking my kids to a football game.

Football games are much easier with my kiddos now than when they were little.  The older three are pros at football games.  They love the atmosphere, the crowds, the snacks, the game.  They do great.  Britt's only been to one and is a big fan of popcorn.  ;)  I try to go to at least two games every year but this past fall was different since Britt was so little.  We can usually drive to several of Tab's games which is so nice.  However, now Nixon is playing flag football in the fall and usually has a Saturday game.  That's also made it harder to attend games.

(I answered this one.  Tab has no clue what's happening with the kiddos during a game.)

Don't forget to check out this post to see some other football questions answered.

I hope you guys have the best Monday!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, Friends!

I have a fun morning planned with the littles while the big kiddos are at school.  I'm looking forward to hanging with them.  Hope your Friday is looking good too!

In true Friday fashion, I've teamed up with Andrea and Narci to bring you my Friday Favorites.  These are typically a "Hot, Random Mess" of my favorites from the week.  Hope you enjoy!

Insta Story Tip:
I REALLY need to begin putting these Insta Story tips into practice!  Right?  I have an easy tip for you this week.  If you don't see the color you'd like to use in those circles at the bottom of your story, you can push a color and hold it.  Then a little screen full of a ton of colors will pop up and you can choose a new one.

*UPDATED*-I was working on this post Wednesday and added some Insta Stories on Thursday morning.  EEK!  Did you see them?  You can follow me at "slaughteren".

The Greatest Showman:

My dates on Saturday afternoon for The Greatest Showman.  I promised you I wouldn't keep talking about the movie so I won't say A THING but if you missed my post you can read all my thoughts about it here.

Favorite Product of the Week:

This sample came in my Play! By Sephora box back in November.  I shared before that I was loving this little box of samples way more than my Birchbox because they're all brands I've heard of and can pick up at Sephora.  A lot of the Birchbox faves I received, had to be ordered.

This mask I put on my clean face typically before I take a bath and read.  I leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off when I get out.  My main skin concerns are fine lines and large pores and this is one way I tackle those pores.  A few weeks ago, I put this mask on, got in my bubble bath, and was reading my book.  I THOUGHT {that's the key word} I'd closed the door but somehow Miss Britt made her way in my bathroom.  She took one look at my charcoaled face and lost her mind.  She was not a fan of her mama with a mask.  I had to scream for Tab to come grab her.  So maybe don't wear this mask in front of your toddler.  ;)

Book Review:

Okay, I started reading this book a week or two ago when Tab was out of town and could not put it down.  Super suspenseful, it's the first book in the series, and I've already ordered the remaining books {third book is still pre-order}.  This says it's a teen series, so there was nothing super over the top hard core in the storyline.  But it did have bad language so I'm not sure who rated it for teens?

If thrillers are your thing, I highly recommend this one!

Costco Question:

Okay, Costco shopping, friends!  I haven't had a Costco membership since Bowen was a baby.  The savings on diapers and formula and all the baby things were totally worth it, but when that stopped I couldn't justify the drive.  There isn't a Coscto conveniently located to us and I let my membership run out.  BUT...I just heard Costco delivers?  Have you guys heard this?  Has anyone used this service?  I couldn't see if there was a fee.  It looked to me like if you sign up for two day delivery as long as you meet the minimum requirement there isn't a fee?  Is this correct?  Costco shopping, Friends, please help us all out!  You know how I feel about grocery pick-up.  This could be a BIG GAME-CHANGER!

Day in the Life:

If you missed my Day in the Life post yesterday, you can read it here.

I shared a while back about these books I was reading and how I was starting OPERATION DECLUTTERING THE MESS in the Slaughter house.

Some of you asked for progress pictures and let me tell you the past two weeks I've been too embarrassed to show you.  You know how when you're cleaning something out you ALWAYS make a bigger mess before it begins to look better?  Well that's been the boy room for a WEEK!  I got a ton done yesterday and am hoping to have it fully finished this week, so I can show you a picture.

Hope you guys have the BEST weekend!  XO

Day In the Life-Wednesday

You guys are my PEOPLE!  No doubt my favorite posts to read from other bloggers are the Day in the Life posts and thanks to my survey in December, I know you guys feel the same way!  I'm going to try to incorporate them more and hopefully change up the day so you see a little variety.

This was a pretty typical Wednesday around here.  Hope you enjoy!

I woke up at 5:15 a.m.  Then I did what I do every single morning.  I grabbed my phone to shut off my alarm and then caught up on my blog reading.  This is the only time I read blogs during the day.  I read them, comment on some, and THEN get out of bed.  I like getting up early and being productive in the morning, but the second my alarm goes off I need a few minutes before hopping out of bed.  This set up works so well for me.

I walked around my house turning on lamps, started my coffee, and grabbed my books for my quiet time.  While my coffee is brewing and cooling {ha!  Yes, I'm one of those.} I read my devotional-God's Grand Story {our church is going through this together}, a chapter from Anxious for Nothing, and did some work on the Bible study-Seamless.  I've done this study before, but a few moms in our neighborhood got a study going for the girls.  Ebby Lee is in the group {and is one of the youngest} so we're doing the study together.  I don't mind her not "getting" everything, but I definitely don't want her to be confused or have questions.  We're doing it together at night, but I like to read ahead.

Then I grabbed my computer and got a little blog work done before waking the kiddos for school.

This is pretty much every morning.  My big kiddos are all Dude Perfect fans.  It's the one show they all three agree on, so most mornings consist of sleepy eyes still waking up, lots of snuggling, and an episode of Dude Perfect before breakfast.

I got sidetracked and didn't grab a picture of the big kiddos before school, but Tab took them to school.

And then I took these two cuties with me.

I traded Bowen for that sweet thing on the left. ;)  I dropped Bowen off with Shay and snagged Madeley.  Shay was still recovering at home so I took Madeley to the gym to play and eat lunch while she dropped Bowen off at preschool.

This was me right after my workout class.  I barely made it.  Barely.

I made my way to the stop of the stairs, set myself down, and tried to catch my breath.  I was a mess!

While I was catching my breath, my girlfriend, Natasha, walked up and I invited her crew to grab a bite with us before heading home.  We feasted on quesadillas, omelets, and Cheetos.  What a combo!

Then we dropped Madeley off at her house so she could nap.

Britty and I did a little playing before I laid her down for her nap.

Then I sat down at my desk for a solid two hours while Britt napped.  I got a ton of travel work done and while I was on hold with one phone call I worked on my blog.

Tab was working in McKinney and swung by preschool to pick up the big kiddos for me.  He dropped them off at the house and then we all loaded up to go to...

Smoothie King!

I'd been telling Shay all week I was gonna bring her a smoothie.  I dropped off my favorite kind {Skinny Green Tea Mango Tango-thanks to Kristin} and grabbed the kiddos a little after school treat.

The weather was amazing after school so we headed straight outside to play.

Our neighbors invited us to join them in their backyard just a few minutes later so we made our way next door to join them.

Seriously, the best after school weather for playing outside.

Britt thought it was all fun and games until this happened...

Then she was over it.  After seeing this picture, I can't say that I blame her.

We came back home around 4:30 so I could get dinner going...I made a sausage rice casserole with green beans and a salad.

Britt Slaughter was a MESS after playing outside.  It was the kind of mess that a wet wipe/baby wipe/napkin just wasn't gonna cure.  The only treatment was a BATH!

It was our day to pick up the girls from dance, so Miss Thing watched while they finished up in their class.  Britt was waving and blowing kisses to Ebby Lee and
Kensington through the door.  It was the SWEETEST thing. Then we dropped the Shull girls off and headed home to eat our dinner.

Tab took Nixon to his practice and Bowen joined them.  So for dinner-it was just me and the girls.  We ate, chatted all things girly, and then had a little dance party in the kitchen thanks to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.  Our Wednesday evenings are the one night we can't eat dinner together.  The practices for the big kids are at opposite times and there's no way to make it work.  But we all sit down for dinner together the other nights of the week.

These two enjoyed a nice bubble bath.

And then I begged Ebby Lee to watch Britt so I could enjoy my own.  hahaha!  They went upstairs to play while I started reading, The Last Mrs. Parrish and take a bath.

Ebby Lee and I put Britt to bed, I cleaned up the kitchen, and living room...

And then we snuggled up on the couch to watch a Girl Meets World episode on Netflix.

The boys got home right after this picture was taken.  :)  We got all the big kiddos in bed and I was all snuggled up in my own bed by 9:15.  Now THAT'S a good night!

Hope you enjoyed a little peek at my Wednesday!
