Thoughts for Thursday

I'm linking up for another edition of Thoughts for Thursday!  I'm joining Home of Malones and East Coast Chic by sharing some thoughts.

"Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it."  Proverbs 22:6

I 100% believe that as a Christian Mama leading my children to Jesus, teaching them stories from Gods' Word, and growing their faith is mine (and Tab's) responsibility.  We work on this all year long.

Every once in a while I stumble upon a new family devotion or activity (or in this case remember one from years ago) that I try with our family.  I'm sharing one today and would love to hear more ideas!

Around our house with a girl and boy so close in age sometimes they say naughty words they shouldn't say to each other.  In the grand scheme of life are they crazy naughty?  NO, but they're words they shouldn't be speaking to their siblings.  Anyway, in college I remember a speaker doing this little activity.  She made it WAY more in depth, but for my kiddos we stuck with this verse...

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."  Ephesians 4:29

I got each child a small travel size of toothpaste for this activity.  We talked about how when we say mean things to other people, it hurts.  As much as we may want to apologize and wish we hadn't said them, we can never fully take the words back.  We demonstrated this by pushing toothpaste out of the tube to represent the ugly words we say.  Then I told the kids to put the toothpaste back in the tube to represent us apologizing or wishing later we wouldn't have said them.  Try as they may, they could hardly get ANY toothpaste back in the tube let alone all of it.  We tied it right back into that verse in Ephesians.

This totally wasn't my idea (wish I could claim it), but it speaks truth to us all.  Doesn't it?  :)

Do you have any ideas??  Maybe you remember some from youth group or college too?  I'd love to hear them!  (I'm sure we all would)  :)

Hope you enjoyed the short and sweet today, friends!  XOXO
Happy Thursday!

What's Up Wednesday

I'm joining MelShay, and Sheaffer for their What's Up Wednesday link-up!

What we're eating this week:

Last month when I did this link-up my kitchen was closed too!!  EEK!

Tab and I are in Park Cities, Utah, at the Montage, Deer Valley.  Girls, it's SO nice!  I guarantee you I'm having delicious meals and the BEST creamy eggs.  I don't even know how to describe's like angels scrambled them themselves.  :)

Our flight leaves way early tomorrow morning and I MIGHT have asked Tab to change my flight so I could have the magical eggs just one more morning.  #hesaidno  #noharmintrying

What I'm Reminiscing About:

Our getaway last year!!  We had the best time!

What I'm Loving:

THIS WEATHER!!!  This past weekend Texas had some gorgeous spring days!  We enjoyed the backyard and these days have us ready for summer!

What We've Been Up To:

Grocery store runs, homework, baseball practice, and dance with a few grown up getaways thrown in the mix!  (Don't judge the junk on top.  I promise there were fruits and veggies underneath.) :)

What I'm Dreading:

This was also on my list last month and it just didn't happen.  The kiddos' closets are getting out of control.  They have to be cleaned out soon or one day we might go in and never make it out.

What I'm Working On:

Today I'm spending all my energy on gracefully skiing down this mountain without breaking anything.  But...let's take a second, GORGEOUS, huh?

What I'm Excited About:

A NEW LINK-UP!!  Shay and I are hosting a new link-up every month and you should join us.  While on Disney's private island, we started chatting about being stuck there.  What would be our must-haves.  And all those thoughts got us here...

We'd LOVE for you to join us!

What I'm watching/reading:

After all that Fuller House hype, a friend let me borrow this book!  Almost finished and wow...after Full House, she had some hard days.  If you're a Full house fan, you should check it out.

I shared a few of the past books I'd read and the movies we've watched last week.  You guys even left some great suggestions.  You can see it here.

I can't wait to watch the Real Housewives of Dallas starting next week!

What I'm Listening To:

My kids have been into Inspector Gadget on Netflix lately.  I can hear it playing in the background as I type.  :)  Sometimes it's a tough balance to find things that are appropriate and interesting to all ages and this show fits the bill.

What I'm Wearing:

All the spring colors!  Except on cool days.  Then I'm confused and show up in a puffer vest.  #truestory
I kept it real and showed you the "at home" version.  If I'm at home, odds are there are slippers on my feet.

Top:  Super similar in petite here.
White Jeans:  Exact here.
(Many white jeans are see through and these are NOT!)
House Shoes:  Similar here.
Necklace:  Similar here.

What I'm Doing This Weekend:

I'm getting home, doing all the laundry, and re-packing for another trip!  These two trips just accidentally ended up back to back, but I'm soaking up family time this weekend.  And I'll be headed to the airport bright and early on Monday for Mama Trip #2!

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month:

Celebrating these two!!  We have two with birthdays almost back-to-back.  We tend to have a "Birthday Week" at our house and we celebrate all week long.  We can't wait!

Happy Wednesday, Ladies!!  XOXO

Top Three

Happy Tuesday!

For Tab's job he often is thinking in quarter terms, January-March-the first quarter of the year is wrapping up.  I thought it'd be a new little tradition to start wrapping up the quarters over on the blog.  So today, I'm choosing my top three posts from Quarter 1!

In between Christmas and the New Year, Tab had the Music City Bowl Game.  We all decided to tag along and we had a fabulous time living it up in the Music City for several days.  We had delicious food, went on a celebrity house tour, and got to watch Tab officiate the game.

I shared a before/after of our finished dining room.  The dining room is the first room fully complete, but we're working on others.  Trust me, our to-do lists are LONG in the house department over here.  In time it'll all come together.  :)

#3 Disney Cruise

I couldn't include a list of my top favorites without including our Disney Cruise!
You can see all of our fun here....

Hope you enjoyed the quarter check!  :)  Have a great day, ladies!  XOXO

Let's Talk...Moms

One of my favorite things about blogging is LINK-UPS!  It's such a great way for us to all share our thoughts on one idea or topic.  Seriously, link-ups are my jam!  And today Andrea and I have a great one for you!  We're chatting all about the moms in our life.  :)

Let me introduce you to my fabulous mom, Tina...

First of all, she's a TWIN!  I don't know if I've ever shared that before and I cannot find a picture of her and her twin sister together!  She was the youngest of three girls and came from a great Christian family.

She taught kindergarten for almost 25 years.  Yeah, I know.  It might take it a minute for that to sink in.  :)  She taught KINDERGARTEN for almost 25 years!! When I was growing up, she was a single mom for a few years and now that I'm a mom myself I don't take that for granted.  She sacrificed a lot and now my mama heart totally gets it!  (Thank you, Mom!)

She was (and still is) a fabulous mom, but I think she's an even more outstanding grandma.  My three love her to pieces and I think the feelings are mutual.  My kids (and brother's kids) call her T-Nonnie.  We were trying to come up with a fun grandma name before Ebby Lee was born and we read that name on the internet.  We laughed and laughed and then it stuck!  ha!

Some of my favorite memories with my mom are taking special shopping trips with the girls.  St. Louis was about two hours away from us but it was the closest trip to a big mall.  We spent many fun girls' trips driving up to St. Louis talking all things girl and shopping!  Think prom dresses, swimsuits, and Easter dresses galore!

If you're up for a game of any kind, Tina is the girl you want on your team!  :)  At all family gatherings, she's up for game time!

And she just makes things more fun!  She's ready to slide down a bounce house slide, get pie'd in the face, or hula hoop all in the name of love.

AND...her birthday is tomorrow, so I'm wishing this sweet mama of mine a HAPPY BIRTHDAY a day early!

We're so thankful you're ours!  We love you, T-Nonnie!!!

And today I'm in Deer Valley ski school!  You can follow along at "slaughteren" on Instagram!

Friday Favorites

Holla!!  Friday, it's good to see you!  My kiddos are out of school today so we're enjoying the day as a family.  I'm teaming up with my girls, Andrea and Narci, to bring you some Favorites, of course.  :)

I have a whole lot of random for you today, friends.

Have you guys seen these??  They're a new shoe being released by Nike that TIES ITSELF!  Hello, Marty McFly shoes!  As a teacher, I would have paid good money for every kid to have a pair of these so I never had to tie shoelaces...especially the ones that were wet!  EEK!  Teachers, you know what I'm talking about, right?

I'm over at The Blended Blog as their Feature Friday.  Go check us out here!

Every once in a while the stars align and I capture a sweet little brother moment.

I need your help!!  Where's your FAVORITE place to shop for rugs?  We're working on completing our front room (with the new fireplace) and I ordered a couple rugs.  One is growing on me, but I'm not sure yet if it's "the one". I'm giving it a few days.  Where is your go-to rug store??

Do you guys remember this trip?  You know the one where my group decided to wrap me like a mummy and then hold me up with a piece of rope?  That one!  hahaha!  I kid.  Kind of.  :)  My hubby earned us another getaway to Deer Valley!!  This year I'm putting my big girl pants on and giving that whole skiing thing my best shot.  I've never skied a day in my life, so I'm hoping for the best!  haha!  I'm sure I'll be rolling down the mountain, but it'll be fun right?  I can't WAIT to share how it goes!  Make sure you're following along via Instagram where I'll try my best to share some updates.  I'm "slaughteren" on IG.

I had dinner last week with some of my favorite ladies.  I getting together and catching up with these girls, especially if there are deviled eggs involved.  :)

Monday is another Let's Talk link-up all about moms.  You can share all about your mom, your mother-in-law, your grandmother, or some funny mom moments you've experienced yourself.  We can't wait to read!

Nobody was pinching us last week!!  #allthegreen

I think I linked to this blog post last year, but a couple years ago Shay did a fabulous blog post about her faith.  I loved it!  It answered all kinds of questions for any one who might want to learn more about how to have a relationship with Christ.  In honor of Easter this Sunday, here's my friendly reminder-this weekend is all about the Lamb, not the bunny.  Fabulous quote!

Hope you have a great weekend celebrating our Risen Savior!  Happy Easter, Friends!  XOXO

Everything Entertainment

I think it's time for another edition of...

A Little Bit of Everything Entertainment.

If I had all the time in the world, you must know that I'd do research for these posts all day.  I'd read and read and read just so I could share my thoughts with you.  But I don' my entertainment list is a bit short today.

What I've Been Reading:

Turning the Tables by Teresa Giudice
Are there any Real Housewives' fans out there?  If so, you need to get this book.  You will love it!  As a fan of the show (and even Teresa on the show), I was pumped about reading this book.  For those of you who don't know, Teresa is on The Real Housewives of New Jersey and recently went to prison for eleven months because of tax fraud.  In this book, she gives accounts of her childhood, family life, and days spent in prison.  And I should add she is not one to leave out the details.  (Insert that emoji with the big wide eyes!!)  I'm telling you...if you're a fan of the show, you'll love this!

Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand
Shay gave me this book a while ago.  I was a bit intimidated because it's long.  As a mom, it's hard to commit to a big book.  Sometimes I'm not sure when I'll be able to pick a book up again, BUT I'm SO glad I read this one.  I packed it on our vacation and found myself staying up late to read when everyone else was asleep.
This novel is about a group of high school students who are in a car accident.  The girl driving was upset about something and driving recklessly.  She doesn't survive so we're kept in suspense throughout the entire book trying to figure out what had happened prior to the wreck.  Let me tell the end, we figure it out and it's just good!  A great chick-lit read that will suck you right in and have you staying up late even on vacation!

Someone recommended this book to Tab and we couldn't wait to read.  With three children in our home, we have a variety of personalities going on over here...mix them in with Tab and I and we're a hodge podge!  ;)  This book outlines four different personalities and then it shares a story (with about five chapters) and how each personality is special, unique, and needed.  One isn't better than the other, which was great for our children to see.  We read this with our kids and they could quickly identify which animal they were similar to.  Great family time read!

Anchored by Kayla Aimee
You know that spot on Amazon where it says, "People Who Purchased This Also Purchased These Books"...that area gets me every time.  This book by Kayla Aimee popped up for me on Amazon and I purchased.  It's a story about Kayla's real-life struggle with finally getting pregnant only to deliver a very premature baby extremely early.  She then rides a roller coaster of emotions trying to figure out where God is through it all.  She is "Anchored" in her faith and shares her story.

What I've Been Watching:

Fuller House
I shared all kinds of thoughts on Fuller House Season 1.

3/5 of our family got to watch this new movie, Zootopia, on board the Disney Magic.  Ebby Lee and I missed it so a couple weekends ago we hit up the theatre to watch.  I thought this new movie was super cute and entertaining!  Ebby Lee was a bit frightened during a few of the scenes.  But overall...a cute and kid-friendly show.

What are YOU reading and watching right now??  I love hearing your suggestions.  :)  I have a couple upcoming trips where I know I'll get some good reading time in, so I'd love your ideas!  Thank you!

What I'm Wearing (Or Ordering)

Today, I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy for a "What I Wore Wednesday".
First, I shared this picture last week on Friday (#sheaffertoldherto)  and got asked a lot where I found that shirt for Ebby Lee.  Here are her outfit details....

Green Shirt:  If you have a Dillard's close to you, go check in the store.  I'm not seeing the shirt online.  Sorry, girls!  This is the brand and a cute top in blue.
White Jeans:  Exact here.
Gladiator Sandals:  Exact here.

We should call this a "What Erika Orders Online" post.  haha!

I recently ordered several goodies and thought I'd share with you.  Please keep in mind pretty much everything needed to be ironed.  :)

Every time I see someone in flare jeans I order myself a pair and as soon as I try them on I tell myself that I'm just not a flare jeans kind of girl.  However, if you are a flare jeans girl, these white ones are so cute!  I don't know why I can't be a flares-kind of girl?!

Green Tank:  Exact here.  (I LOVED this!!!  Plenty long and a great spring color.  Also comes in ivory.)
White Flare Jeans:  Exact here.
Leopard Heels:  Exact here.

This picture pretty much shows you nothing.  #takingpicslikearookie #onlyshotofthepants

Ruffle Tank:  Exact here. -I thought this top ran a little big.  I'm going to try sizing down and seeing how that fits.  I'll keep you posted.  It's white with a blue stripe.  I thought it was so cute and could be worn with denim or white all summer long.  I loved the ruffle details.
Black Flare Pants:  Exact here.

Lace Dress:  Exact here.-I loved this dress.  It can be dressed up or dressed down, paired with a denim jacket or worn alone.  I must tell you-it's very see through.  #allthenudepantiesforthisone
Lace-Up Sandals: Exact here.  I just realized I tied with the ties in front and I should have tied them in the back.  Oops!  I must tell you these sandals were comfy.  There's a heel, but it's not too tall.  They're a very comfortable height.

All you cowboy boots' wearin' girls...this dress is for you!  Wouldn't that be darling with cowboy boots?!

Flutter Tank:  Exact here.-This one is a KEEPER!

Ruffle Sweater:  Exact here.-This sweater was darling and would be perfect for cool spring mornings but my torso is way too long.  It barely covered my midriff.  If you are short-waisted, this is your jam.

I've been preparing for a couple upcoming trips, so I'm trying to get my wardrobe in order.  That explains my crazy hodge podge of finds today.  What are you wearing right now?  Or better yet...what are you ordering online?  ;)

Happy Thursday!
