Decluttering With Me...Take One

Okay, friends...today you're gonna see the good, the bad, and the ugly side of Erika.  :)

While I'm good at lots of things, one thing I do not excel at is constantly decluttering.  That happens to be the key step in keeping a home clutter free and organized.  If I'm constantly bringing new things into the house, then I should also be consistently taking other things out.  My house is only so big and can hold so much.  Right?  It only makes sense.  And well the truth is-I stink at doing this.  My rooms, closets, drawers, and cabinets eventually look like they'll explode and then I'm stuck with a space needing some MAJOR help!

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'm all about finding great resources to help me along the way.  Through the years, these are some of the books I've read...
I LOVED this book!  The author gives you practical ways to declutter spaces without taking hours out of your everyday life.  She encourages you to use techniques that don't leave your house or space looking like a war zone as you declutter.

I was super motivated to clean out all the things while reading this!

I don't know about you but the hardest part for me is carving out enough time to take things out of a space-whether it be closets, drawers, etc.-then go through and declutter, and also reorganize your space.  Depending on your area that can take hours.  Most of us don't have extra hours in the week to carry out that method.  HAVE NO FEAR!  This author explains ways to declutter without creating a big mess at the same time...hence the title, Decluttering at the Speed of Life.  ;)

My only negative to this is I feel better about completing a space when I have taken everything out, gotten ride of things, and then put it all back.  This would be the book I'd read when I need to do a little refresh around the house but not a full blown DECLUTTER EVERYTHING.

Talk about motivation...this book got me moving!  I'm a list girl so I loved the detailed list of what to do each day...organize the junk drawer, clean out the refrigerator, etc.  31 Days to a Clutter Free Life is great for keeping us all on target.  I've been known to lose momentum and just get half of my house organized.  But with this book, you'll want to keep going.

The downside with this one is even with using the list/guideline...it's gonna take more than 31 days.  Unless you have no kids' sports, no job, no laundry, and can really focus ONLY on decluttering your life.  I'd give yourself a whole lot of grace and turn this one into a three months to a clutter free life.

Ruth Soukup also wrote Unstuffed, which was a GREAT read for decluttering as well.

Okay, A Simplified Life is a gorgeous book.  This is one I'd suggest if you're looking for some good motivation to really go big in the organizational department in 2019.  I started reading this last year and the first part talks about organizing your home.  Being super motivated to get mine organized, I quickly got to work and then never picked up the book again!  I happened to have two different girlfriends who were reading it at the same time and they did the exact same thing!  I'm telling you...it's super motivating!

I don't think it gives as many tactile ways to organize your spaces...it's more of a how to organize your entire life book.  So, I'd suggest the other books if you're really needing some help on what to do to organize your space.

I know lots of you have been Marie Kondo'ing your life at the moment thanks to her new Netflix show.  While I'm not really focused on how much joy an item brings me, I do think once your home has been super decluttered and organized by sticking to Marie's steps you won't have to do a big overhaul ever again.

So basically her methods are my goal once I have EVERY SINGLE ROOM finished.  #goals

I'm pretty sure every one of the books above talks about how much better you feel when your spaces are all clutter free and organized.  I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agree!  I feel so good about a room or space when I have it complete.  I told you I was sharing my bad and ugly, so let me be honest and give you a glimpse into what my office looked like right after Christmas.  I was storing presents in here so LOTS of boxes, I was keeping every envelope  so I could double check I had the correct addresses for my Christmas card list in 2019, and really the holiday busyness just left this space a DISASTER!  Let me repeat...a DISASTER!

See for yourself...
My desk was a DISASTER!  There were ALL THE THINGS around the room.  It was AWFUL!

A peek at how organized these cabinets were...SO BAD!

Basically my office was a BIG HOT MESS!

And now the after...
AHHHHHHHH!!!!  So much better!

I love this area for little knick knacks the kids make me.  Lots of those items on the shelves were made during art class.

So nice to see the FLOOR!

I decluttered and had an embarrassing number of trash bags as well as recycled boxes to get rid of.  I think it's safe to say that I'm good on stationary for a while.  :)

Everything has a place and it feels good!

I shared this today because if you're stuck in a rut and looking for a little motivation I hope this helps!  My hope is to periodically share a room or two with you to keep you motivated AND to keep me accountable.  If you're working your way through your home as well and need a little decluttering accountability, {I'll be sharing mine here} feel free to e-mail me!  I'll be SO happy to be your decluttering accountability partner.

For real...shoot me a picture when you get a room all organized alittlebitofeverything83@yahoo.com and hopefully we'll stay motivated to keep going from room to room until it's all complete!

If you have any tips or tricks for how you declutter and organize your home, please share!  And if you're in the process, let us know how it's going!

Happy Decluttering, Friends!

What's Up Wednesday-January 2019 Edition

Hey!  Hey!  It's the last WEDNESDAY of the month, which means it's time for What's Up Wednesday...with Sheaffer and Shay.

What We're Eating This Week...
Tab's out of town this week so I've made really difficult things like chicken nuggets, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and scrambled eggs for dinner.

What I'm Reminiscing About...
A couple years ago Ebby Lee hosted a little Valentine's Day party for some friends.  These girls were so sweet and it was just a nice little after school party.

What I'm Loving...
I'm loving this book, Winning the Worry Battle, and the bible study that goes along with the book.  If you are just not a worrier, then you skip this one but anyone who struggles with worrying just a bit to worrying a whole lot, I recommend it!

What We've Been Up To...
Spending my days with this cutie by my side.  She's turning into Chatty Cathy...just yesterday I was asking her something and she said, "Hold on".  All the words and all the phrases are happening!  And I'm so very thankful!

I headed to church on Sunday with two girls ready for Valentine's Day and two handsome boys.  :)

These two...well, she has him wrapped around her finger.

Sisters :)

And this cutie was there too...just running late.  I'm not sure if it's his age or what but his six-year-old self is struggling with time management in the mornings.

What I'm Dreading...
Potty Training-we started a week or so ago and the first day went GREAT!  I got a little overly confident and then it went downhill from there.  I need to get hardcore again BUT someone told me to read this book, Oh Crap!  Potty Training:  Everything Modern Parents Need to Know to do it Once and do it Right.  The book just arrived...I'll be reading and then we're starting again!

What I'm Working On...
A big pantry clean out-over time our pantry has gotten out of control.  The pantry and I have a date this weekend.

What I'm Excited About...
The Slaughters are headed back to the slopes for Spring Break this year and I'm READY!  Getting away with my people is one of my favorite things.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
Celebrity Big Brother...I'm watching!!

I'm not sure who I'm cheering for yet.  I'm shocked they got Ryan Lochte out so soon, the way those girls go at it and then make up so quickly is crazy to watch, and I'm impressed Kato and Tom both won competitions!  It's a fun season so far!

And I'll be reading this front to back and taking ALL THE NOTES.  :)

What I'm Listening To...
We've been listening to an oldie but goodie lately.

What I'm Wearing...
These earrings on repeat.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
Remember my date with the pantry?  Well, these canisters will be there too.

And we'll catch that game on Sunday every one is talking about.  :)

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
Murder Mystery Dinner 2019 is going down next month...I'm looking forward to it!

What Else Is New...
Busy wedding season is quickly approaching and yesterday I asked for YOUR help!  All of my kiddos are in an upcoming wedding and I haven't ordered a flower girl dress and such in years!  I was searching online and found a ton of options, but I asked for best places to purchase flower girl dresses, junior bridesmaid dresses, and boys' suits.  You ladies delivered!!  You can read all the comments for some great suggestions if you're in the market for some wedding party attire too.  :)

What's My Family's Favorite Valentine's Day Tradition...
Our family loves celebrating all together.  Sometimes that looks like a table for six out on the town, sometimes that looks like breakfast for dinner, and other times we cook at home-guys and girls-ALL in the kitchen.  No matter what-we enjoy spending it with all our people.

That's all I have for today!  Hope you have the BEST Wednesday!

Help, Please!

Hey Friends!

I hope that cute pictures of the shoes got your attention because I NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!

I started to ask for recommendations on Insta-Stories but then I decided others might want to see the responses.  So, a blog post was born.  :)

All four of my kiddos are in an upcoming wedding and the sweet bride whom I love so much has given me a lot of freedom in their clothes on her big day.  I have some colors and such I need to stick to but it's the sky's the limit when it comes to where I'll shop.  I'm hoping some of you ladies have some great recommendations.  I'm looking at you...recent mothers of the bride, brides, wedding planners, aunts of the brides...anyone who's been wedding planning lately.  Help us out!

I've searched Nordstrom, Macy's, Dillard's, and J Crew and have found some cute items.  During my search I also found random websites that appeared to have DARLING dresses.  But I'm just wondering if the quality in real-life is as good as the pictures.  Have any of you ordered from websites you'd highly recommend for dressing my crew?  Or even websites you don't recommend?

If so, PLEASE share!!  I have no doubts others reading will appreciate your suggestions and opinions just as much as I do.

Best place to shop for flower girl dress, junior bridesmaid dress, boys' suits, and anything else we should add??  THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I really appreciate your help!

And if you're new here and would like to read a little more about the wedding theme we have going today...
*I shared all the details from mine and Tab's big day!  And how thankful I am Pinterest didn't exist back then.
*Tab and I did a little "Marriage Talk"-Part 1.

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I can't wait to read your comments!

THANK YOU!

Spotlight On...Play Beauty Box

Hey Friends!

It's been a while since I've shared a SPOTLIGHT ON post  and today is one of my favorites...Play Beauty Box by Sephora.  It's a monthly subscription box for just $10 that comes with five trial-size samples plus a beauty bonus.  When you sign up you create your profile and while most of the items are the same overall, I have had one or two products vary from other's boxes.

I'm always on the hunt for the moisturizer that will make me appear ten years younger, the lip color that will make my teeth appear whiter, or a foundation that removes every fine line and wrinkle...so this Play Beauty Box is right up my alley.

It's like Christmas morning every time it arrives.  :)  This month these were my goodies...

You receive this little page of info each month sharing a little about each product and how to use each one.

Sunday Riley's C.E.O.  Brightening Serum...I'm a fan of all Sunday Riley products so I'm super excited about trying this one.

Four Sigmatic Mushroom Golden Latte Mix...I don't even know what to think about this product??  It promises a "glow from within radiance".  I can't say no to that!  I'll keep you posted on how this tastes!

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask...this happens to be a product I've been wanting to try!  YAY!  Love when that happens...I'll be using this ASAP!  {And please don't pay attention to my crazy dry hands.  I get a new set of hands every winter.  It's awful!}

Bite Beauty lip balm and a sugar lip scrub...my lips are handling the winter better than my hands {THANKFULLY}, but I used this duo already...AMAZING!

Beautyblender Cleanser...I'm really glad this was in my box this month!  I'm gonna clean all my makeup tools and use this cleanser to make it so easy.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace...I'm a FAN of this color.  I wore it to dinner just last night.  It's a neutral with a little extra kick and it glided on so well.

I'm telling you-every month it feels like Christmas when my Play Beauty Box arrives.  The price is GREAT!  If you're a product person, then I'd highly recommend this for you.  It's such a great way to test run a wide variety of products at such a great price.

The negatives are there isn't a way to "gift these" to others at the moment.  You can always sign up and gift them to different people each month or gift them to friends on certain months.  Those are options!  And the other negative is sometimes you receive a product you're not interested in {I'm looking at you Golden Latte Mushroom Mix}.  When it comes to those random items, those are typically few and far between.

In my opinion, it's totally worth it!

What about YOU?!  Have you subscribed to Play Beauty Box?  And if so, what'd YOU think?

To see other Spotlight posts...

Thanks for reading today!

Friday Favorites-Crayola Edition

Happy Friday, Friends!

Hope you've all had good weeks...if you're like me, it feels like it's been Friday for several days.  Those short weeks are always a big tease!

Just like every Friday, Andrea, Narci and I are sharing our Friday Favorites.  I have a random mix of faves to share with you.  ;)

Do you recognize these four girls?

Last Friday, Shay and I took the littles to the Crayola Experience in Plano.  It was our first time to go check it out and the verdict was...great for preschool, even toddler age but I wouldn't recommend it for kids older than kindergarten.

This first station allowed us to take a picture and then it printed our picture onto color paper so the kiddos could color it.  They got to name their own crayons, melt crayons, and watch them drip.  Their favorite part was the indoor play area.

These two had the BEST morning!

Britty dressed down for Bowen's basketball game on Saturday morning...can you tell?

This year is my first year to be room mom....to be honest, the Spring Carnival is usually the reason I refrain.  Tab is often times at a spring football scrimmage and taking all the kiddos plus being in charge of a booth just sounds like too much.  This year though-Nixon's class was short a room mom so I stepped up.  I used to be a third grade teacher, but the decorate the classroom door for Valentine's Day assignment had me stressed!  I asked another mom for help and we met up this week to tackle the door.  I thought it turned out SO cute!  And it was SO easy!  If you're needing an inspiration, hope this helps...you can add more hearts at the bottom too?

Let's chat Celebrity Big Brother!!!

*I'm a fan of the cast this season.  It's a fun and interesting group of celebs.

*WHY did Lolo flip off Ryan and Jonathan's pictures?  That moment stunned me...and then she appeared shocked he was thinking about putting her up?

*I have no idea if this is true but I read somewhere the celebrities get $200,000 for signing on to the show and then they get paid more the further they go with the final guest receiving an additional $500,000.  Again, not sure if that's true or not but I mean-it was on the internet so it has to be true.  Right?  ha!

*The silly competitions are my favorites and there's just something about seeing a celebrity attempt to swing, grab water from a fountain, and pass it on to someone else that makes it even better than watching a non-celebrity.

*It appears as though some celebrities have never watched the show...WHY would Joey Lawrence say that he hates the word, "alliance"?  That's kind of a key word if you're playing Big Brother.

*Do you have a favorite at the moment?  I'm really all over the place.  I was excited for that big alliance that instantly formed but I mean-didn't it crumble by day two?

Did you guys hear Gymboree is closing?

I'm super bummed....it was my favorite place to stock up on holiday pajamas for my crew.  Right now, all new styles are 30% off {and other items are 50% off} but I'm sure the discounts will just keep coming.  Maybe keep an eye on it?  Also note-all sales are final.  I'm heading over to stock up on some spring items for Miss B.

And just for fun...my life lately :)

Oh, friends!

Any other potty training mamas out there??  It's like having another child...but a newborn who likes to eat every thirty minutes or so.

Hope your weekend is amazing!
